Bregenzer Festspiele Will Present "Andrea Chénier" on Seebühne

Soprano Amanda Echalaz
The Austrian music festival in Bregenz will present Giordano's verismo masterpiece Andrea Chénier beginning July 20, 2011. The floating stage on Lake Constance will recreate the French Revolution and the story of executed poet André Chénier. The cast will include Julian Gavin (Andrea Chénier), Scott Hendricks (Carlo Gérard), Amanda Echalaz (Maddalena di Coigny) and Rosalind Plowright (Countess di Coigny). The new stage will cost approximately $10.4 million US and will feature a "24-meter- high Marat-sculpture, which is the figure from The Death of Marat, a 1793 painting in the neoclassic style by Jacques-Louis David." With over 100 performances in 2010, the festival drew more than 200,000 audience members. Additional performance dates and a video of soprano Amanda Echalaz after the jump. [Source, Source]
